204 Years in Eltham (1802 - 2006)

2002 saw the 200th birthday of Eltham's oldest family business.

The business was originally established  in 1802 as a Smithy and Forge in Eltham High Street by the Foster family. In 1899 it passed to the Metcalfe family who continued shoeing horses until 1959. The Blacksmith part of the business continued along side the Lawn Mower repair business until the end of the 1980s. Following a move to a new location in Passey Place in 1987 the Blacksmith work ceased completely and Lawnmower sales and repair became the sole business.

On 16th February 2006 Maurice Metcalfe closed the shop door for the last time and started his long overdue retirement.

The property in Passey Place has now been sold to another long established local business, W.Uden & Son, Undertakers.

It has been decided to keep the web site active for local history and interest.
